FACE (Family and Community Engagement) is committed to sharing and celebrating the accomplishments of EJP students with their family members and friends. Through FACE, we also seek to provide family and friends with resources to help them further their own educational goals. Underlying our work is the hope that FACE initiatives will help lessen the stigma of having a loved one in prison, help family and friends support one another, and strengthen EJP students’ relationships with their loved ones.
In an effort to promote higher education, FACE coordinates the annual EJP scholarship program. Applicants must demonstrate need and funds must be applied towards attendance at an accredited program of higher education. One $500 scholarship is awarded to a family member of an EJP student, and another $500 scholarship is awarded to a family member of a DCC staff person. The next scholarship deadline is February 1, 2013 and you can access the scholarship application here below.
One of FACE’s most important initiatives is our twice-annual Open House in Chicago. Family members in attendance meet EJP instructors; view photographs of the U of I program in action; receive booklets of student writing; and gather materials on college readiness. The Spring FACE Open House is scheduled for Saturday April 6, 2013.
