The University of Illinois “campus” at Danville prison includes a Community Library that EJP maintains within the prison’s Vocational Building. In addition to holding our book and CD collections, this space, comprising two rooms, also serves as EJP’s  tutoring center, meeting rooms, and occasional classrooms. The Community Library provides a place for EJP students to engage in intellectual discussion and quiet study away from some of the disturbances of the prison environment. Teams of Library Workers, EJP students who apply for these positions, organize the collections and maintain the atmosphere of the rooms so that they’re supportive of scholarly work.

Holly Clingan is EJP’s community librarian, heads the Library Workers, and happily accepts appropriate donations for the EJP library. She can be reached at info@educationjustice.net
