This group introduces students to theory and research in the field of mindfulness and to meditation practices.
We familiarize ourselves with a variety of meditation approaches and their cultural contexts through readings and discussion. In addition, we explore specific meditation practices through experiential exercises.
The main text is Jon Kabat-Zinn’s book Full Catastrophe Living, plus additional readings by psychologists, historians, philosophers, and practitioners in the field. The purpose of this group is to explore research on the beneficial effects of consistent meditation/mindfulness practice as a means of enhancing the educational experience and of living a more fully-present and engaged life.
