Fall Convocation 2016
We marked the beginning of another academic year at Danville Correctional Center with our Fall Convocation on August 18, 2016. We were honored to be joined by outgoing Danville Area Community President Alice Marie Jacobs and the outgoing dean of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaigns’s College of Education, Mary Kalantzis. Every Spring we honor the EJP students who have done exceptional work at our annual Awards Convocation. This year, we were delighted that the President of the University of Illinois, Tim Killeen, and the director of the Illinois Department of Corrections, John Baldwin, were able to attend. EJP 2014 Symposium on Higher Education in Prison
The October 2014 symposium brought educators and activists from across the country to discuss matters related to higher education programs. EJP students and alumni participated as presenters and moderators. Panels addressed pedagogy, the politics of prison education, challenges of prison writing programs, and more. FACE Open House Fall 2013
Our Family and Communities Engagement (FACE) open house brought together loved ones of incarcerated EJP students, EJP alumni, and other friends and allies in Chicago. Guest speaker Grace Bauer from Justice for Families was inspiring, describing the successful efforts of families nationwide who have organized to impact incarceration policy and practices. Fall Open House 2013
EJP held our fall open house at the prison on September 20, 2013. Thirteen visitors attended Friday evening classes and met EJP students and instructors. The next open house is scheduled for Friday February 14, 2014. We strongly advise people considering applying to our program to visit an open house. Click here for more photos of the open house.
Author Ron Berler visits Danville Prison
Author Ron Berler visited Danville Correctional Center on August 28, 2013 to discuss his new book, Raising the Curve: A Year Inside One of America’s 45,000 Failing Public Schools. Instructors and Students Celebrate Fall 2013 EJP Convocation
We held our fall convocation and new instructor orientation on August 22, 2013 at Danville prison and the EJP offices on campus. We were fortunate to be joined by two EJP alumni, Earl Walker and Quinton Neal, who shared their experiences of prison and of studying while incarcerated. Click here for more photos.

Language Partners Wins Global Leadership Award
EJP’s English as a Second Language (ESL) program, Language Partners, was honored by the inaugural Arcus Award for Collaborative Social Justice Leadership.
